TEAM FAQ & Fundraising Ideas
Need more details on forming a team or what to do now you have a team? Below are some answers to some of the most common questions.
How many members can we have on our team?
A team consists of up to 15 members. Other friends and relatives who did not register on your team are welcome to join in the celebration and support you on the day of the Relay.
Is there a fee to be on a team?
There is a $100 registration fee per team. The Team fee may be turned in to Bank of the West; please designate this money as registration fee.
How can I get a t-shirt?
Every registered team member who earns $25 or more is eligible for one Relay For Life t-shirt. T-shirts that are ordered by May 5 (Team Registration Deadline) may be picked up at the first Bank Night on Thursday, June 5.
Can someone who is not on a team just donate $25 and get a t-shirt?
You must be a registered team member to receive a t-shirt.
What do I do with the money our team has raised?
You may deposit the money at Bank of the West, Carroll or turn in the money on one or both of the Bank Nights (June 5 and June 24). Remember to put the money in a completed Team Member & Captain's Envelope. When you turn in your envelope, you may pick up a new Team Captain's Envelope and additional Team Member Envelopes if needed.
PLEASE have the money counted and labeled (i.e. 'Team Registration Fee,' 'Luminary Money,' 'Member Funds') and, when applicable (for group activities), be sure to itemize the amount to be credited to each team member.
What about team raffles?
Raffles featuring items that value $600 or more must be reported to the American Cancer Society office in Carroll (contact C.J. Niles 712-794-0100) so these items can be reported under the ACS gambling permit. All raffle winners must also report to the ACS for tax reporting purposes.
What if my employer has a Matching Grant program?
Request the matching gifts form from your employer and turn in the froms with your deposit in order that they may be signed by the ACS representative, C.J. Niles, and returned to you for processing. Matching funds must be received by August 15 to be included in the total for this fiscal year.
How can we promote our team's activities?
We will have more information on this soon. |
Put the Fun back in FUNdraising!
Don't shy away from organizing a Relay For Life team because of fundraising! Although fundraising can be a challenging task, it's a great way to spend time with family and friends, make new friends, be creative and get involved in the community! Don't limit your fundraising efforts - reach for the stars!
Try some of these FUNdraising ideas to kickoff the new Relay year:
- Start "Fry Day Fridays." Ask a local fast food restaurant to donate a dime for every order of fries they sell on Friday.
- Pay $5 to wear jeans, t-shirts or your favorite team apparel to work.
- Every penny counts. Start a penny drive and setup containers across the workplace and community.
- Every nickel counts, too. Ask family, friends and neighbors to donate pop cans.
- Send a letter - or Holiday card - to family and friends explaining your participation in the Relay For Life.
- Sales, sales, sales. Have a plant sale, bake sale, garage sale or book sale.
Fundraise with HOPE bracelets
Teams have the opportunity to sell purple HOPE bracelets as a fundraiser for Relay. Teams may purchase bracelets in quantities of 50 for $25 and sell them for $1 each. The bracelets have become very popular with people of all ages and all money raised can be applied to the team total. Single bracelets may be purchased at a cost of $1 each. Bracelets may be purchased for fundraising at Merle Norman-Special Moments, 509 N. Adams in Carroll.
Spring Cleaning may spring fundraising into action
Why not have a spring cleaning drive to increase your team's fundraising? Clean out your garage, toy room, basement, closets and have a yard sale or take the items to a consignment store. Donate the proceeds to your Relay team goal. April showers bring May flowers, but they probably don't get the grime off cars! Organize a team car wash in exchange for donations to Relay.
